I’ll be speaking at a panel about manual scavenging on 19 January at a WaterAid/Channel 4 event. It’s invitation-only so journalists should apply to WaterAid press office for an invite, if hearing about cleaning latrines with your bare hands just after breakfast is your thing. I applaud the efforts of WaterAid, Rose George and others who are fighting to raise our individual and collective awareness of the tragedy of lack of hygiene and the deplorable sanitation conditions and caste discrimination which exist in India and elsewhere. I appreciate the practical suggestions for solutions which are being offered. We each need to make a commitment to restore human dignity and sustainability to this vitally important subject. I have read your book and followed your blog for some time now, I must applaud your tireless efforts with sanitation needs around the world. It is difficult to understand how this subject does not get more attention and funding, the need is so obvious. So many lives could be saved and living standards improved. Thanks for all you are doing.
